AS EXPECTED the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) general council meet on Thursday concluded after offering condolences to former Chief Minister SC Shukla, ward 20 corporator Atul Shukla and RSS ideologue KL Goel.
The meet will now be held at 11 am on February 17 at the IMC headquarters with no change in the agenda. Beginning at shortly after 4 pm the proceedings lasted less than an hour with Speaker Shankar Lalwani postponing the meet until Saturday after tributes were paid to the three departed politicians.
The session was sparsely attended with a mere 39 corporators, 25 BJP and 14 Congress, of the total 68 (down from 69 after Atul Shukla’s demise) turning up for the meet.
Even as the council was paying tributes to the trio Health department staffers led by union leader Jatashankar Karosia staged a demonstration and raised slogans demanding regularisation of muster roll employees.
Both Chief Municipal Health Officer Dr DC Garg and KM Sharma, PA to Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma, attempted to dissuade the protestors from raising slogans as a “condolence meet is in progress” but to no avail.
Earlier, Mayor-in-Council (MiC) member Lalit Porwal, leader of the Opposition in the IMC Suresh Minda and deputy leader Sarwar Khan paid glowing tributes to Shyama Charan Shukla ward 20 corporator Atul Shukla and KL Goel.
