Even as the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) called off its four-day shutdown on Monday, three of its front organisations declared an indefinite strike in all government offices from Wednesday. The strike, called by Janmukti Karmachari Sangathan (JKS), Janmukti Secondary Teachers’ Organisation (JSTO) and the Janmukti Primary Teachers’ Organisation (JPTO), covers all government offices, courts and Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council and the municipality. But banks, post offices and emergency services will remain open.

“We have taken this decision to provide moral support to the fast-unto-death campaign,” said Benedict Gurung, president of JPTO.
