India, China to celebrate 50th anniversary of the Panchsheel principles and discuss its relevance in guiding state-to-state relations in the 21st century.

India and China would jointly celebrate this month the 50th anniversary of the initiation of the 'Panchsheel' principles and discuss its relevance in guiding state-to-state relations in the 21st century, sources said here today.

Former President K R Narayanan is scheduled to head an Indian delegation to attend a key event that China is organising to mark the 50th anniversary to mark the initiation of the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence (FPPC), sources told PTI.

The Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs (CPIFA), an institution specialising in the studies on foreign policies and international issues, will host a seminar here on Panchsheel from June 14 to June 15 here to mark the event.

The five principles include mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit and peaceful co-existence.

The five principles were initiated and proposed by China, India and Myanmar in 1954.

Matters relating to the celebrations came up during the first telephonic conversation between the new External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh and his Chinese counterpart, Li Zhaoxing last week.
