Those left out from the 16-member Indian touring squad were openers Gautam Gambhir and Wasim Jaffer and wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel.

The omission of Jaffer and Gambhir means India would again go into the match with the opening combination of captain Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag.

Ganguly, who was left out of the second Test at Faisalabad, is also in contention for a place in the final eleven which will be named only on the morning of the match.

Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq, who has been troubled by a bad back, will wait till Sunday before taking a decision on his availability for the crucial tie.

If Inzamam does not take the field, in-form vice-captain Younis Khan will lead the team.

Shoaib Akhtar is also confirmed to spearhead the bowling after recovering from a niggle in the left ankle.
