India to resume arms supplies: Nepal King

Manmohan met King in Jakarta, and the monarch claimed Delhi has promised to resume arms supplies to Nepal.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Nepal's King Gyanendra in Jakarta on Saturday, and the monarch claimed New Delhi has promised to resume arms supplies to Kathmandu.

Rajiv Sikri, secretary (east) in the Indian external affairs ministry, told reporters here that Manmohan Singh did meet the king. But Sikri made no mention of India's assurance on resuming the arms supplies that were suspended in the wake of the February 1 royal coup in Nepal.

However, the king told NDTV channel: "We have agreed on specific things... We have got assurances it (arms supplies) will continue."

The 45-minute meeting on the sidelines of the Asian-African Conference here came nearly three months after India suspended arms supplies to Nepal demanding immediate restoration of democracy in the Himalayan kingdom.

Sikri quoted Gyanendra as telling Manmohan Singh that the political process in Nepal would be restored "as early as possible".

The king gave the assurance after they "deliberated on the situation in Nepal and it was agreed that the political process should be restored without delay," Sikri said.

Manmohan Singh also met Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
