Indian Americans appointed on the Bush Advisory Commission

An Indian American duo is recently appointed as members of the Bush Advisory Commission, reflecting the enormous strides made by the Indian American community.

Congratulating Dr Akshay Desai and Joseph Melookaran who were newly appointed members of an Advisory Commission of President George W Bush, the US-India Political Action Committee has said the duo represents the enormous strides made by the Indian-American community.

"We are so proud of Desai and Melookaran. They represent the enormous strides forward of our community. Truly, Indian Americans are making vital contributions to all walks of life in America, including government and business," Sanjay Puri, executive director of the USINPAC said here yesterday.

The 15-member Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders is charged with increasing economic opportunities and business participation by the 14 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, including 2 million Indian Americans.

Dr Desai serves as President of American Family and Geriatric Care among other prestigious positions. He is also Vice President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and is on the Board of Directors of the Indian American Republican Council.

Melookaran is president of an accounting and information technology company based in the Midwest. He also serves as Chairman of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Kansas City and is the National Co-Chair of Indian Americans for Bush-Cheney election bid.

"USINPAC is dedicated to increasing the participation of Indian Americans in our political system," Puri observed. "Desai and Joe Melookaran are prime examples of a community on the move."
