INDIAN MOVIES should be original in theme and not an aped version, noted actor and anchor Annu Kapoor feels. ‘There was a time when all the movies churned used to have an original theme. They did not look like a rehashed or a mirrored version. Unfortunately this is not so today’.

On asked whether TV shows like the ‘Indian Idol ’ and ‘ Nach Baliye’ were posing a threat to genuine artistes he said, ‘ I don’t actually watch Hindi films and television shows’. However, the method of selection through a public opinion was not correct.

‘When the people of our country cannot even choose a proper leader, how can they select a talent?’ he asked. About his programmes in the offing, he said that a Wheel Smart Smt Ladies programme would be screened in Doordarshan. The
show would cater to the housewives and the format would basically be like a game show.

‘This would certainly be different from the usual Saas Bahu masalas’, he said. It would also judge the compatibility level of the couple.

Besides, there would be a musical programme for DD1 from June in which the songs would be highlighted in the poetry form. It would be a theme based programme and each episode would have its own theme. The contestants will have to sing a song, which would justify the theme. ‘The programme would be intellectually stimulating’.

Anu is also doing an Indo-Italian movie ‘Fakir’ based on a true story. Both he and Farhan Akhtar play pivotal roles in the movie. On asked what he liked doing most he said, ‘I like to convey my thoughts whenever I get a chance to do so.’
