Presence of Indian students in Australian Universities is expected to cross 80,000 by 2020, IDP Education Australia, the official student recruiting agency for Australian Universities, said here today.

The agency, which conducts road shows to recruit students in 33 countries, was concentrating on recruiting more Indian students, its Director Henry Ledile told reporters.

He said the universities expected to admit 8,000 students this year alone.

Over 27,000 Indian students already were studying in Australia and students, who had completed education there, had already completed placements in that country, he said.

The Australian government's decision to grant permanent resident status to students, who had completed two years education in that country, had given a big boost to the universities to admit students from abroad, he said.

He said the educational system in that country was cost effective, compared to the US. The presence of a large number of US students in Australian universities was ample proof that these universities provided quality education at affordable cost, he said.
