Indian woman to head Penal Reform Int'l

Rani D Shankardass was on Saturday appointed chairperson of the Penal Reform International (PRI), a prestigious non-Governmental organisation based in London with consultative status attached to the United Nations and the Council of Europe.

India-born Rani has been the vice-chairperson of PRI for the last six years and now holds the distinction of being its first woman chairperson heading a board of 13 distinguished members from 13 countries, a release from the organisation's London office stated.
