Indians suspected in 2 Oz murders

Two brothers from Sunam were murdered in Australia on Friday morning. The crime was apparently the result of a dispute with fellow Indians over money.

Back home, the family was shattered when father Swaran Singh Dhaliwal received a phone call from Australia, informing him his two sons on study visa in Perth, Navdeep Singh (22) and Kanwaljit Singh (20), had been murdered.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh for the family. Besides the father, there is mother and sister mourning at home.

Police sources said the brothers were murdered by two students from Gurdaspur district, with whom they had earlier lived together as tenants. However, they were told to vacate the house because their quarrels.

An IANS report from Melbourne said one man was being questioned by the police in connection with the murders. A police official said the deaths were the result of an argument over money.
