Indo-Canadian man gets 12 years in prison for stabbing father to death
An Indo-Canadian man, who has admitted to fatally stabbing his father 31 times in March last year, was handed 12 years in prison by British Columbia Supreme Court. The accused Jaipreet Singh Toor, 46, had pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder, after which the court announced the verdict.

The accused Jaipreet Singh Toor, 46, had pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder, after which the court announced that he will have to spend at least the next 12 years behind the bars.
Though Toor had requested a minimum 10 years before parole eligibility, the Crown was seeking 12 to 14 years in prison for the March, 2012 slaying.
Justice Sheri Donegan ruled there was no evidence that the victim was suffering from a mental illness when he committed the crime and also found that he understands the charges against him and the consequences of his guilty plea.
Toor had told the court that he became enraged when his father refused to give him more money after providing him with some cash earlier in the day.
