In the search operations last night, police arrested 17 persons who are known anti-socials of the area as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, the police with the help of video footage are trying to identify those responsible for causing damage inside the Central Kotwali police station.

The version of some of the constables who were present on duty would also be taken for this. Meanwhile, police have started taking statements of people in connection with the cases, including that under Section 307, registered against MLA Ashwin Joshi.

Unofficially, senior officers have indicated that even though various cases have been registered, including that under Section 307 against Joshi, it had been done to diffuse the tension at that point of time, and the charges, especially that under Section 307 of IPC would be dropped against Joshi.

Police sources said in the matter of registering cases, there have been excesses on both sides and even though cases have been registered on the basis of statements made, the sections would be pruned after investigations.
