The number of JE patients has increased considerably and for the first time eight patients were admitted to the district hospital on Thursday and five new patients at the medical college.

Meanwhile, six more patients succumbed to the dreaded disease in the paediatric ward of the medical college, taking the death toll to 63.

Ninety-four patients were undergoing treatment at the medical college paediatric ward and seven in the district hospital.

So far, 420 suspected JE patients have been brought here to the medical college in the last four months and the number of patients are increasing by the day. It is notable that the district administration had expressed displeasure over direct admission of JE patients to the medical college without any reference from the community health centre or district hospital. Divisional commissioner Dr Moolchand Yadav claimed that CHC and the district hospital well- equipped to admit suspected JE patients.
