England's injury worries were compounded further on Monday after fast bowler Simon Jones was ruled out of the first cricket Test against India starting here on Wednesday.

Jones, who fell on his follow through during the team's practice this morning, was diagnosed with a minor cartilage damage to his left knee.

The Glamorgan player would now fly back home to consult a specialist and his participation in the remainder of the three-Test series would be reassessed after the review.

Earlier in the day, skipper Michael Vaughan was ruled out of the match after he failed to recover from a sore knee.

Vaughan would also return home and his availability for the rest of the tour was in doubt.

Andrew Flintoff was set to lead the team as vice-captain Marcus Trescothick had pulled out of the tour for personal reasons on Saturday.
