INTACH & JNURM to work in unison
Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) will now work in co-ordination in order to conserve art and cultural heritage vis-a-vis development.
Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM) will now work in co-ordination in order to conserve art and cultural heritage vis-a-vis development.

As such, the vital task of development will be carried out wisely while providing ample scope for the conservation of significant archaeological sites.
In a meeting of the INTACH officials and district administration held recently, it was decided to start the job of listing almost 700 to 800 archaeological sites and heritage centres in the district.
The meeting was headed by DM Amrit Abhijat who is the member of INTACH and attended by Dr Sunil Gupta, convenor of Allahabad chapter and other officials.
"We had Janhwij Sharma, Head of Architectural division of INTACH as our important guest who arrived specially for the listing purpose. Sharma who has already done the listing in Srinagar, Patiala etc suggested that the district must be enriched with atleast 700 to 800 archaeological sites as against our assumption of 200 to 300 such sites in the district," said Dr Gupta.
"For the listing purpose, we have already received Rs one lakh from Nagar Nigam which is a part of total budgeting.
INTACH will function under the guidelines of JNURM which provides for the development of heritage area and listing of archaeological sites. Salvage archaeology will also be carried on side by side. After the listing, the entire document will be published in volumes," said Dr Gupta.
A monitoring committee was also formed during the meeting which will be headed by the DM and the prominent members will be Dr Sunil Gupta, Priyamvada Joshi, co-convenor of INTACH and Janhwij Sharma.
It has been decided to invite Dr VD Mishra as the chairman of the Archaeological Advisory Committee of INTACH, Allahabad. The committee will advise on various sites of importance.
"Since the task is very technical, INTACH has decided to recruit architects at local level for the purpose of listing and formal advertisement will be published soon.
The architects will be trained as per the requirement," said Dr Gupta who is also the project director.
"The task of listing will start from the first week of August and the first phase will be completed within six months. It is hoped that JNURM will keep providing funds from time to time for the project as the work progresses," added Dr Gupta.
