ANGRY OVER the change of an examination centre of the MP Board of secondary education's Class X papers from their village, some persons, including students, today detained Education Department officials, albeit for few hours, who had gone to Jamgaon in Kundam tehsil, some 40 km from here.

The protesters demanded that the Jamgaon centre should be kept intact, otherwise the students would face a lot of hardship to take examination.

The Block Education Officer and Block Academic Coordinator, who had been detained among others, heaved a sigh of relief after the police intervention.

They had gone there to inform the school authorities that a bus has been pressed into the service to pick up the students on Thursday for the other centre.

The MP Board of Secondary Education has shifted the Jamgaon Class X examination centre in Kundam tehsil, to other school, claiming that the centre has earned a bad reputation in copying. And to ensure that no student of the cancelled centre misses to write examination, the district Collector had sent the education department officials to disseminate information about this today.

Additional SP (rural) Ashok Pyasi admitted that the Education Department officials were detained but denied that they were held hostages. He said that after the police intervention and negotiations, the matter was sorted out.
District Education Officer D Chaturvedi denied outright that the officials were held. He said the matter was in fact sorted out even before the police reached the spot.

He said the school authorities of Jamgaon had been informed about the cancellation of the centre 10 days back. The students of the school did protest against the decision of centre cancellation. Last time round, nearly 41 students were caught copying at the Jamgaon examination centre, he added.
