Vox populi has revealed its mind: don’t tolerate disruptors of Parliamentary proceedings. In recent weeks, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee’s office is flooded with letters condemning disruptions and seeking action against such MPs.

"What for are the marshals of the Lok Sabha?" quizzed one letter-writer, urging harsh action to put "irresponsible party leaders" on the democratic path. "Please take action before the public takes law in its own hands by beating their representatives… to make them understand the value of democratic rights and respect for Parliament," wrote M L Gupta of Bhatinda. There is some self-flagellation as well. "We are disgusted and ashamed that we elect such representatives," said Dinesh Shah of Vadodara.

The Speaker makes it a point to respond to his mails. In his responses, for instance, he said his effort to seek punitive action, did not find takers in the political leadership.
