J-K: Two soldiers wounded, five militants killed in Kupwara gunfight

The injured soldier, a trooper of Rashtriya Rifles, sustained bullet injuries during an encounter at Check Drugmulla area near Hatmulla.

Five militants were killed and two soldiers sustained injuries in an encounter in Drugmulla area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday.

Acting on specific information about the presence of militants, a joint team of police and army cordoned-off the area.

An army spokesman based in Srinagar told Hindustan Times that five militants were killed and five weapons were recovered from the encounter site.

The gunfight between the militants and security forces started at Chack Drugmulla near Hatmulla in the morning after specific inputs about presence of militants in the area.

According to army, the operation was called off after gunfight that lasted for about nine hours.

Officials said two soldiers of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) sustained injuries in the incident and were immediately shifted to military hospital Drugmulla, from where they were referred to army hospital in Srinagar for specialized treatment.

The two soldiers have been identified as Pandu Rang Mahadev of 41 RR and Atul Kumar of 47 RR.
