"Special teams have been constituted and they have been sent to the affected areas for constant monitoring of the situation arising due floods which submerged various low-lying areas of Jammu," deputy chief minister Tara Chand said today.

Chand, who reviewed the situation at a high-level emergency meeting here, emphasised on the need to have a coordinated approach while dealing with flood-like situations and said different departments need to work in unison for providing timely and effective relief.

He directed revenue authorities to assess the damage caused to houses and arrange eatables for the flood-affected people.

Chand also asked the Jammu Municipal Corporation and district administration to jointly arrange for pumps to remove water from the flooded areas.

Directions were also passed to police for keeping extra personnel ready for deputation to the affected sites, he said.

"Control rooms should be set up to coordinate the water level of different rivers," Chand said.

Five persons have been killed in house collapses and flash floods in Jammu district, DM Sanjeev verma said.
