Taking up the cause of the agitating state government employees, the BJP on Tuesday asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to make a formal announcement on the issue of implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.
"We ask government to come out with a formal announcement on the issue instead of making vague statements. Its inaction has aggravated the situation in the wake of the three-day strike by government employees," senior party leader Chaman Lal Gupta said in Jammu.
Over five lakh government employees have been observing a three-day strike from Monday following "unsatisfactory" response from the government to their pay hike demands.
Gupta accused the leaders of both Congress and National Conference of promising to implement the pay panel report during electioneering but "now they are making conficting and contradictory statements".
"Sometimes they are saying they are committed to implement the recommendations and that employees should be ready to hear a 'good news soon' and simultaneously they are talking about the non-availability of funds," he charged.
