The PDP-BJP government has put Geelani under house arrest from Monday evening. According to Hurriyat (G), a heavy deployment of police force has been made around his residence.
Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar in a statement said that the Mufti's slogan of "battle of ideas" has practically come to a halt and he has miserably failed in facing Geelani on political turf.
Taking a note of two consecutive rallies addressed by Geelani in a fortnight, the Centre has issued an advisory to the state government to keep a vigil on his activities.
In a directive, the ministry of home affairs has asked Jammu and Kashmir police to keep a close watch on the activities of separatist leaders, including Geelani, as their "activities can be a threat to the peace in the Valley."
