A true top-class all-rounder, Kallis is at the heart of the South African set-up and vital to their chances of success on home territory.

Despite a fairly uninspiring start to his international career, the 29-year-old has become one of the world's leading all-rounder.

Like his performances in Test matches, he has more than proved his worth in one-day cricket and 1,000 runs in 2002 sees him bearing down on 6,000 runs.

He has a one-day batting average of 45.

His bowling figures are also impressive and as well as his mountain of runs in the year 2002, Kallis also claimed 42 wickets. It was the second time he achieved the one-day double of 1,000 runs and 40 wickets, after becoming the first man to reach the mark in 2000.

He went a step ahead during the West Indies series in 2003-04 by scoring a record number of runs for a four-Test series and making a total of six centuries in the Test and one-day series.
