Jaipur Heritage Int'l Fest begins Jan 13

The sixth Jaipur Heritage International Festival kicks off from January 13 next with renowned authors Salman Rushdie, Kiran Desai, William Dalrymple and film star Shabana Azmi scheduled to participate.

"Renowned authors like Salman Rushdie, Kiran Desai, Amit Chaudhuri, William Dalrymple and others, including Shabana Azmi, are scheduled to participate in the fesitval," said Mahaveer Sharma of the Jaipur Virasat Foundation here today.

Hindi poets, including Surendra Sharma, are also scheduled to attend the festival.

The biggest attraction this time will be the Jaipur Literature Festival in which around 30 renowned and emerging writers would participate, Sharma said.

He said the 10-day UNESCO-endorsed festival would also have events incorporating music, art, craft and more than 200 artists from Rajasthan and abroad are likely to perform at 33 venues with more than 75 performances.

"The festival is bringing together artisans and artists from Rajasthan, different parts of the country and abroad. It is going to be an extravagant affair, as it is a celebration of creativity in art, culture, music and literature," he said.

Sharma said the aim was to promote the rich culture and traditions of Rajasthan.

Other attactions would be the music of Langas and Manganiyaars, theatre festival and workshop for children, Rajasthani Kavi Sammenlan, he said.

More than 1,00,000 tourists are expected during the ten-day festival, he said.
