Kin of the killed gangster and the villagers later went on rampage protesting the police action. The irate mob assaulted a sub-inspector and blocked the road for over four hours. Rajesh was carrying a reward of Rs 10,000. The Lucknow police had arrested Rajesh in connection with the murder of journalist Paritosh Pandey in 2002.

However, the special task force (STF) had later scuttled the Lucknow police theory and had arrested the other accused in the case. Rajesh was bailed out in the case later. A police team from Chandwak police station laid a trap following a tip-off about three criminals moving on a motorcycle. The cops had information that the trio was going to eliminate Chandra Shekhar Singh of a nearby village.

The cops spotted the suspects on a motorcycle and waved them to stop. The trio, however, tried to flee.

As the police team chased them the youths riding on the pillion opened fire aiming at the cops.

The police too retaliated the fire killing one of the criminals on the spot while the others managed to give cops the slip.

Soon after the incident, mother and brother of the slain criminal, accompanied by the villagers, reached the spot.

They blocked the road and protested against the police for taking the body for post mortem and bashed up a sub-inspector too.

The cops had to apply mild force to disperse the crowd and take the body for the post mortem.
