Rajya Sabha members Jaya Bachchan and Amar Singh are facing disqualification as they are believed to hold offices of profit, something not allowed by the Constitution.

The EC had in October 2005 issued a notice to Jaya Bachchan regarding the same issue.

Close on the heels of its recommendation to disqualify Jaya Bachchan, the Election Commission is understood to have received a complaint seeking similar action against Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh.

President APJ Abdul Kalam is understood to have forwarded a complaint to the EC which sought the Samajwadi Party leader's disqualification on the ground that he was holding an office of profit, EC sources said.

The complaint stated that Jaya was appointed chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Corporation after becoming a member of the Rajya Sabha.
