In a further boost to JMM chief Shibu Soren who staked to claim government in Jharkhand on Saturday, BJP ally Janata Dal(U), which has two MLAs, tonight met Governor K Sanakaranarayanan and handed over a letter of support backing him in the formation of a new government.

"Our party has two MLAs. And, we have handed over a letter of support to JMM for formation of government under the leadership of Shibu Soren to the Governor," JD(U)'s state unit president Jaleshwar Mahato told reporters here.
"With our support, the total number of MLAs backing Guruji (Soren) has gone up to 44. Our best wishes to him," Mahato said.
Gopal Krishna Patar and Sudha Choudhary are the two JD(U)MLAs. Patar presented himself before the Governor. Choudhary, who was in Patna, sent her letter of support by fax,according to JD(U) spokesman Pramod Kumar Mishra.
Earlier, Soren, while staking claim before the Governor handed over a list of 42 MLAs, 18 each from JMM and BJP, five from AJSU and one from Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch led by Bandhu Tirkey in the 81-member state Assembly.
