In the letter submitted by N Thipanna, JDS state unit president who has thrown his weight behind Kumaraswamy, the rebel MLAs said the JDS legislature party had on Thursday elected Kumaraswamy as their leader, replacing Deputy Chief Minister MP Prakash.

Prakash was replaced following a demand for change and election of Kumaraswamy, they said.

Speaking to reporters, Thipanna said the Speaker gave no assurance to them.

Asked about the letter given by Gowda to the Governor not to take cognisance of the letter for withdrawal of support submitted by Kumaraswamy, Thipanna said, "Gowda's opinion is not important. It is the opinion of the legislators which should be considered."
