Jean-Paul Virapoulle: Assiduous worker

He is known for his outstanding contribution in the political arena and championing the cause of the Indian community.

Virapoulle is a Senator in the French Senate and Mayor of Saint Andre, Reunion Island. He is the longest serving Mayor of Saint Andre, from 1992 till date, which is proof of his popularity.

He has been working tirelessly to promote relations between India and Reunion Island, particularly in the fields of culture and economy. At his initiatives, the idea of setting up an Indian museum in Saint Andre was mooted a few years ago and is in good progress.

Due to his single-handed efforts, Diwali was introduced to the Indian community in the Island and is now celebrated with a great deal of fanfare, particularly in his constituency of Saint Andre.
