Jnaneswari suspect sent to jail custody

A close associate of Bapi Mahato, the prime accused in May 28 Jnaneswari Express derailment in West Midnapore district, was on Saturday remanded to judicial custody by a local court in Jhargram.

A close associate of Bapi Mahato, the prime accused in May 28 Jnaneswari Express derailment in West Midnapore district, was on Saturday remanded to judicial custody by a local court in Jhargram.

Amiya Mahato, who was produced in the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Mohammed Rezza in Jhargram by the CBI, was in its custody since his arrest on June 24 at Koimasole village.

The police and CBI have been investigating his role in the derailment of the Jnaneswari Express which led to the death of 148 people.

Besides Amiya and Bapi, five others have been arrested in the case.
