Joshna enters semis of all-India squash

Top seed and title favourite Joshna Chinappa makes an easy win to book a semi-final berth in the women's singles event.

Top seed and title favourite Joshna Chinappa of Chennai launched her campaign with a comfortable win to book a semi-final berth in the women's singles event of the ISP All India Squash Tournament in Mumbai on Monday.

Joshna justified her top billing and direct entry into the quarters by getting the better of Shweta Singh 11-4 11-3 11-5 in her first outing in the tournament.

Joshna, now in the last four stage will meet another unseeded player Shivangi Paranjpe, who outclassed Kiran Mirpuri by recording a 11-2 11-2 11-3 triumph.

Also moving into the penultimate round was Mandy Kennedy who too emerged a convincing 11-1 11-1 11-7 winner over Kanika Premanarayan in the quarters.

Meanwhile, in the boys' under-13 quarter-final, Vrishab Kotian recovered from the opening game reversal to quell the challenge of Arjun Kochhar.

Quarterfinal results:

Women: Mandy Kennedy bt Kanika Premanarayan 11-1 11-1 11-7; Joshna Chinappa bt Shweta Singh 11-4 11-3 11-5; Shivangi Paranjpe bt Kiran Mirpuri 11-2 11-2 11-3.

Girls U-15: Saumya Karki bt Shweta Yadav 11-3 11-2 11-4; Rinki Soni bt Namrata Purohit 11-7 11-5 9-11 11-2; Shria Khatri bt Anju Sharma 11-6 11-3 11-3; Ankita Sharma bt Urvashi Joshi 11-7 11-3 11-8.

Boys U-17: Abhinav Sinha bt Jay Dalal 11-5 11-8 11-9; Karm Kumar bt Sagar Murudeshwar 11-1 11-3 11-5; Laxman Joshi bt Amay Merchant 11-8 11-2 11-1.
