The state government has appointed former district and sessions judge SK Sardana to conduct the investigation.
He has been asked to submit his report within three months.

One of the fleeing assailants, a professional shooter from Uttar Pardesh, was brunt alive by the villagers in the presence of police personnel immediately after the shootout.

The Gurgaon police claimed to have identified the killers of the sarpanch.

The sarpanch allegedly had a feud with another person in the village over a trivial issue and the latter allegedly hired two contract killers to eliminate him. Police said the killers were living in nearby villages and did a reconnaissance before executing the murder.

Meanwhile, efforts are also on to probe the suspicious role of assistant police commissioner Sumer Singh, in the case.
