Incensed with the incident, doctors marched up to the Medical College crossing and blocked MG Marg, throwing traffic completely out of gear in one part of the city. They were demanding action against the culprits and compensation to the injured doctors. They also burnt the effigy of Railway Minister Lalu Yadav.
Though reports suggest that trouble began after PTS men tried to grab reserved berths occupied by the doctors, some of them said the recruits first misbehaved with some lady junior doctors who too had gone to take MS/MD examination at Meerut along with their male colleagues. A batch of about 60/70 doctors from the city had gone together for the examination. Doctors from several other places had joined them.
PTS men allegedly started assaulting the doctors after the latter objected to their misbehaviour with their women colleagues. The dharna was lifted nearly four hours later after ADM City RP Singh agreed to forward the memorandum of the doctors to the government.
Reports said junior doctors at several places in the State had gone on strike in protest against assault on their colleagues on board Nauchandi Express.
