The strike caused inconvenience to a large number of patients and their attendants at the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, Manohar Das Eye Hospital and Sarojini Naidu Children’s Hospital.

New patients were not admitted while those who were already admitted faced problems in their treatment. A large number of patients had to return or go to private nursing homes and hospitals.

Vijay Bahadur, resident of Sangram Patti village, under Handia police station, who had sustained injuries in a clash in his village and was admitted to SRN Hospital here, allegedly died due to lack of medical care.

The OPD of SRN Hospital was closed on Tuesday, paralysing medical services.
Meanwhile, Junior Doctors’ Association president Dr Phul Kumar Singh said their strike would continue till the erring policemen were arrested and stern action was taken against them.

He said the district unit of the Indian Medical Association had expressed solidarity with them and efforts were on to seek support of medical college teachers and the Provincial Medical Services doctors.

The JDA chief further said a meeting would be held on Wednesday to chalk out the future strategy. He said he was in touch with his counterparts in other cities, including Lucknow.

Earlier, hundreds of junior doctors holding placards took out a peace march from MLNMC to Subhash Chowk in Civi Lines area and shouted slogans against the guilty policemen.

The medicos from Allahabad, who sustained serious injuries in the incident, have been hospitalised. One of them, Dr Rakesh Bahadur Singh, fractured his nose besides injuries on his face and head. Dr Shashi Pratap Singh sustained injuries in his right ear and head. They were travelling in coach number S-6 of the train.

Meanwhile, Dr Ritesh Pathak, travelling in coach number S-3, told HT that the problem started in his coach when four to five policemen, some of them under the influence of liquor, misbehaved with medicos while trying to occupy the seats.

He said the manner in which the train was stopped at Moradabad junction and medicos were attacked, it appeared that the railway officials were also involved in the ‘conspiracy’.
