Soon after filing his nomination at 2.20 p.m., Scindia addressed a public meeting.

Scindia said development was the core issue for him. He said during his short stint of 22 months as MP from Guna, he had undertaken development works worth Rs 600 crore. Had there been a Congress government at the Centre, he said he would have ensured development works worth Rs 6,000 crore in the region. "It is just a beginning. In my second term, I will further dedicate myself to the region’s development,'' Scindia said, urging the voters to ensure his win, with a larger margin than last time.

Asserting that he would not resort to 'personal attacks', Scindia said the BJP's 'feel good' was anti-farmer and anti-employee.

He also promised to do everything possible to protect the grassroots workers.

Polling will be held in Guna on May 10. Former minister Mahendra Singh Kalukheda filed his nomination as a dummy Congress candidate from the constituency.

Apart from Kalukheda, former minister Balendu Shukla, MLAs Umed Singh Bana and K P Singh; Pratap Bhanu Sharma, Rameshwar Neekhra and NSUI state president Hemant Vagadre, Tulsi Silawat, SN Pawar, Bhopal Mayor Vibha Patel, Rajendra Bharti, MLA Rajvardhan Singh and Govind Rajpur also accompanied Scindia.

Earlier, former dacoit Malkhan Singh joined the Congress in the presence of Scindia.
