Kamal Nath's helicopter attacked in southern MP

People pelted stones on the Congress leader's helicopter as he passed Chhindwara on his way to address a rally.

Unidentified people pelted stones at the helicopter of senior Congress leader Kamal Nath in Chhindwada district of southern Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, Congress workers in Bhopal said.

Kamal Nath represented Chhindwada constituency in the last Lok Sabha and is contesting as a Congress candidate from the seat in the coming general election.

According to reports reaching here, Kamal Nath had travelled to Devgarh in Chhindwada in a helicopter to address an election meeting.

While he was addressing the rally, some people reached the venue in two vehicles and pelted stones at the helicopter. They escaped before the police could react, Congress workers said.

Soon after the incident, Kamal Nath left the place in a car.

Pitted against Kamal Nath is the Bharatiya Janata Party's Prahlad Patel, who is the central minister of state for coal and mines.

A couple of days ago, Patel's cavalcade had been attacked in the constituency. Patel had blamed Kamal Nath for the attack.

Soon after the incident, Kamal Nath had sought more police protection from the district administration. According to the Congress leaders, adequate police forces were not deployed at the venue of Kamal Nath's rally.
