Kargil coldest in Kashmir Valley at -19.2° C

Cold wave continues in Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region as the minimum temperature in most parts settled below the freezing point, with the frontier town of Kargil the coldest place in the state at minus 19.2° Celsius.

Cold wave continues in Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region as the minimum temperature in most parts settled below the freezing point, with the frontier town of Kargil the coldest place in the state at minus 19.2° Celsius.

The minimum temperature in summer capital Srinagar stayed above the freezing point for the fourth day on Saturday as the city recorded a low of 0.6° Celsius, against the previous night’s 0.9° Celsius, an official of the meteorological department said.



In Qazigund, the mercury settled at minus 0.4° Celsius, against the previous night’s minus 1° Celsius, while Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.7° Celsius, and Pahalgam shivered at a low of minus 5.6° Celsius - almost the same as the previous night’s low of minus 5.5° Celsius.



Ski resort Gulmarg registered a low of minus 8.2° Celsius, while Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of 0.6° Celsius.



Leh recorded a low of minus 12.3° Celsius, over eight degrees down from minus 4° Celsius recorded on the previous night.
