Karnataka factory blast leaves 33 hurt

Friday night's blast occurred at a starch and glucose manufacturing unit at Gokak town in Belgaum district.

About 33 people were injured, ten of them seriously, in a blast in the boiler of a factory at Gokak town in Belgaum district of Karnataka, a senior police official said on Saturday.

Friday night's explosion, the cause of which was not immediately known, occurred at Ridhi-Sidhi Gluco Boils Factory, a starch and glucose manufacturing unit, Belgaum Additional Superintendent of Police SK Hegde said.

Hegde said no deaths have been reported so far.

The injured have been admitted to hospitals at Gokak and Belgaum, he said.

According to police, several workers were evacuated after the powerful blast.
