In a letter to Singh, Karunanidhi said the Centre had permitted only 2,461 Muslims from Tamil Nadu to undertake Haj this year.

But 4,990 people had applied this year for the pilgrimage and of them 2,829 did not get the opportunity. "The Centre should permit all of them to undertake the pilgrimage," he said.

He had also written a similar letter to the Union Minister of State for External Affairs, E Ahamed.
