Indo-Nepal ties will get a further boost with PM Modi set to flag off the first official bus service between Kathmandu and Delhi on November 25 during his upcoming visit to attend the 18th SAARC summit.
Kathmandu-Delhi is one of the three routes that Nepal has finalised for the passenger bus service. The other two bus corridors are between Kathmandu-Varanasi and Pokhara-Delhi.
It is not clear yet if Modi will take the land route when he travels to Nepal. Though the PM is keen to travel by road, senior officials of road transport ministry said that nothing has been finalised. “We have identified three routes in case the PM chooses to travel by road. But these are poorly maintained and will have to be repaired on an urgent basis,” said an official who did not want to be named.
Work is also underway for launching similar bus services with Bangladesh and Myanmar.
