Exhaustion caused by overwork and travel was stated to be the reason for the problem. Doctors had advised him two days' complete rest, a spokesman in the Chief Minister's office said.

Achuthanandan, 86, had been undergoing a hectic schedule in the last few days. He was in New Delhi to attend the CPI-M politburo and central committee meetings in the weekend.

He had to sit in the state assembly for long hours yesterday as the House was discussing the grants demanded by the departments under him.
