They are the little engineers of Coimbatore. Attending school was always a luxury for these children who come from poor homes. But, determined to make the most of this opportunity they decided to enroll for a training programme in repairing electronic items, including radios — and this changed their lives for good.

With just six months of training, nothing can stop these little engineers from giving vent to their creative urges. After school they assemble and repair radio sets.

The money they make takes care of their school and other expenses. Says Suresh Kumar, “I belong to a poor family and my father is a farmer. I attended the training programme in assembling radio sets at school, and this helps me make a living now.”

Suresh, a student of Class VII, and his friends have sold over 150 radio sets. “I want to be a scientist when I grow up,” beams Suresh. These children can also repair fans, grinders and even television sets.
