ENGINEERS OF the Kanpur Municipal Corporation brought the functioning of their section to a halt demanding strict action against a contractor and his men who allegedly thrashed a supervisor and hurled expletives to a junior engineer on Friday night. Maintaining the pressure on the KMC administration, the engineers demanded filing of criminal case against the errant contractor in this regard.

According to engineers, on January 6 at about 9 pm, junior engineer Jagdish Prashad and supervisor Matloob Ahmed on receiving the information that the said contractor, who also contested assembly elections on the Congress ticket from Derapur constituency, was getting work done with sub standard material, reached the spot and protested against the material used in the work.

The protest infuriated the contractor and his aides, who brandishing rifles started beating the supervisor Matloob Ahmed. Jagdish Prasad, who tried to intervene to save the supervisor, was also hurled expletives, said the engineers.

The engineers also claimed that the contractor and his aides also issued life threat to junior engineer.

Enraged by the behaviour of the contractor and his men, the engineers today stopped work and demanded action against him.

They also held talks with additional municipal commissioner Raghvendra Vikram Singh in this regard.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the AMC shot a letter to the SSP for filing of criminal case against the errant contractor and take appropriate action in this regard.

However, on the other hand, one of the contractor’s men Samar Man Singh has already lodged an FIR against the junior engineer and the supervisor for allegedly beating him and even pushing him into a burning charcoal, which resulted in burn injuries to him.

KMC sources said that reaction of the engineers was only following FIR against their counterpart.

However, AMC could not be contacted in the evening despite efforts.
