?Lashkar-e-Qahar? e-mailer nabbed

BHOPAL CITY CID branch have arrested a youth, Sharique Ahmad Khan, who had sent emails in the name of ?Lashkar-e-Qahar? taking up responsibility of the recent Mumbai local train blasts.

The 19-year-old youth had sent three such mails to TV channel Aaj Tak through the usernames of  and . Bhopal IG Sanjeev Kumar Singh while addressing a press conference here today informed that the cyber crime branch of city CID had investigated into the matter after Mumbai police apprised them about the emails.

During investigations it was found that the emails had been sent from four cyber cafes of the City. The first mail was sent on July 15 at 5.24 pm by the username . The mailer had taken responsibility of the blasts claiming himself to be member of Lashkar-e-Qahar. The second mail was sent by the same ID on July 17 at 7.11 pm from a cyber café at Nadra Complex.

The third email was sent on July 24 from a café at Saifia College Road by the username . A similar email was sent from a café at Bairagarh on July 18 at 3.04 pm.

On the basis of the e-mailer’s identity provided by the four café owners, the police team closed down on the suspect. Subsequently, Sharique was nabbed outside the Raja Parisar on July 26 evening when he was leaving from the NIIT coaching class.

On interrogation he told that he was a resident of Housing Board Colony in Nishatpura. He also confessed having sent the mails through the above said email IDs.

So far the police have recovered as many as 11 different email IDs being used by Sharique. He has passed XII class privately and is currently pursuing the GNIIT course.

IG Sanjeev Singh said that the nature, drafting and language of the emails sent by Sharique were of a serious nature and all aspects of the case were being investigated thoroughly.

Singh, however, refused to comment whether Sharique was suspected to be a terrorist or not. “We are interrogating him thoroughly and as of now we cannot share any further information on that,’’ Singh maintained.

The Bhopal police have informed Mumbai police about Sharique’s arrest and both are in constant touch. “Minute-to-minute information about the case is being shared by police of both states’’, Singh said.

Koh-e-Fiza police have registered a case under sections 153, 66 and 74 of the IT Act against Sharique. Further investigations are on in the matter.
