So who said teaching mathematics is all pain and sweat? By now you would have played numerous puzzle games, or stumbled upon various tricks to make the subject simple, only to make it even more complex.
Or there you can opt for an easier and a simpler option! The two-day workshop conducted by the Ramanujam Museum and Math Education Centre (RMMEC), was aimed to teach the subject in a fun way.
“The idea of conducting this workshop is to concretising maths fundas,” says Meena Suresh, director Ramanujam Museum and Math Education Centre. “Teachers try and make mathematics simple, but unknowingly they make it even more complex,” she adds.
The RMMEC team has travelled across the country, conducting various workshops for teachers. “What we’ve done is come up with a systematic sequence of activities where kids learn concepts by making shapes and patterns,” says Suresh.
Through various ‘fun kits’ a teacher can make the subject easier. “Like they say, Maths teachers have to have their kitties full. With this learning kit children can derive answer easily and not by mugging up the theorems,” explains Suresh. Now who said mathematics was a dreadful subject…
