Left, BJP demand PM's statement on nuke pact

Members of the BJP and the Left parties demanded a statement from the Prime Minister in the Rajya Sabha over nuclear deal being clinched.

Raising the issue during a discussion on a petroleum legislation, Nilotpal Basu of the CPI(M) said that the House should be informed immediately about the outcome of Bush's visit to India and the nuclear deal.

He was supported by party colleague Brinda Karat and senior BJP leader Shushma Swaraj.

Responding to the demand, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Pachauri said that the Prime Minister had himself said that he would give the details to both the Houses once the deal was signed.
