Money has been associated with water for centuries. It is referred to as ‘flowing’ in and out of our lives and ‘in
circulation’ as though it is a liquid pool that never stands still.

Feng shui and vaastu is no different, and because the bathroom is where water flows on a regular basis, it is said to govern the wealth and financial prosperity of the household.

Inauspicious locations
Opposite the kitchen: The element of fire and water will clash in such a position. The leap from preparation of food (kitchen) to elimination of food (toilet) is too violent.

Adjacent to the front door: The main door is regarded as the mouth of the house, from where opportunities enter, whereas the toilet is clearly at the other end of the process and needs to be as far away from the entrance as possible.

Directly opposite the front door: This position can lead to wasted opportunities and lost prospects in careers and finances.

Centre of the house: This is the worst location you can opt for . It is a common feature to have toilets under the stairs but this is disastrous for health and financial prospects.

Problem solving
The bathroom should be well-ventilated, well lit and done up in cool colours like green and blue. Blue represents water, a medium for cleansing and purification. Green represents life and beginnings.

Plants in the bathroom purify the air.

Always keep the toilet door shut and the lid of the pot down to suppress any loss of luck. Make sure the taps are clean and work, as dripping taps mean wastage.

Put two or three tablespoon of sea salt in a dish on the windowsill of the toilet.
