Lighting today speaks the language of your aesthetic sense. And that’s probably why basic bulbs and tubes are giving way to designed lighting. Lights can be used interestingly to do up the interiors as well as the exteriors of your home.
“Lighting,” says designer Alex Davis, an NID Ahmedabad graduate and owner of the design studio INDI Stores, “can be easily classified into three major forms.Task lighting, which is light used in the functional form, ambient lighting which actually means using fewer fixtures, or just one central fixture. Cove lighting or concealed lighting is also widely used these days. And the third form is known as accent lighting, used to give a special effect.”
That’s why, these days, special emphasis is given not only to using light to define space, but also in terms of giving it a dramatic effect.
“The modern approach to lighting is best seen in the fact that the opulent chandelier earlier meant for decoration has now given way to more modern looking and less energy consuming fixtures in materials like wood and glass or even steel and wood. Colour lights are fast becoming a trendy option to the regular white and yellow lights,” says Rachna Agarwal, an architect at Morphogenesis Architecture Studio.
Hmmn! Now that we’ve got you thinking, here are some interesting ways to light up your house.
