Tackling mafia involved in illegal mining, cow slaughtering and other criminal activities has become a major challenge for the police.

It seems that mining mafia and those involved in cow slaughtering and vehicle thefts in Gurgaon and neighbouring Mewat district have no fear of law and order and they do not hesitate to attack the policemen who create obstacles for them.
Crashing police barriers with their vehicles and mowing down policemen have become common in the recent past. The drivers are instructed not to stop at any police barricade and run over anyone, including the cops, coming in their way.
"We often block the road with barricades. But these criminals do not have any fear of police," said a senior police officer.
The recent killing of a cop by a sand mafia in Faridabad has made the city police more concerned.
On May 18, Delhi Police constable Naresh Kumar was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a mini truck which he was chasing in northwest Delhi Bharat Nagar area. The truck had seven occupants who were the members of the notorious Mewati gang. A 25-year-old policeman was also injured after the miscreants pelted stones at the police party.
"Their speeding mini truck smashed the barricade and proceeded towards Delhi," said a police officer about the incident.
In April last year, four miscreants shot at a constable in Manesar. The incident took place when two policemen stopped a Maruti car coming in the wrong direction.
The cops asked the occupants to show their documents, which they failed to produce.
One of its occupants shot at a policeman who was accompanying them to the police station.
