Also known as the “home of cricket”, it was founded at its present venue in 1787 by Thomas Lord and is one of London’s most famous landmarks. Headquarters for Middlesex CCC, it staged the World Cup finals in 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1999.
Marylebone Cricket Club was founded in 1787. Like shooting and fox hunting, cricket was considered a sport for the elite. In pursuit of exclusivity, the nobility approached Thomas Lord and asked him to set up a new private ground. This was the beginning of Marylebone Cricket Club.
India have played just one One-day International here, the opening match of the 1975 World Cup when they were thrashed by 202 runs by England. Sri Lanka have met England at Lord’s on three occasions, winning just once in 1998.
