FOR THE first time in the past 14 years after the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992, low profile functions were organised by both Hindu and Muslim organisations to mark December 6.
FOR THE first time in the past 14 years after the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992, low profile functions were organised by both Hindu and Muslim organisations to mark December 6.

Frontline Hindu organisations refrained from organising grand functions to mark the occasion. However, several units of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Shiv Sena organised small functions in several parts of the city.
But the most remarkable feature of the day was complete absence of district unit of BJP and it local leaders from all functions organised to mark the day.
Regional convener of VHP Awadh Behari Mishra addressed several meetings in the city. Local VHP workers took out a vehicular procession from New Hanuman Temple at Panki. The procession culminated in a public meeting at Old Hanuman Temple at Panki.
Local VHP leaders of the area Ajay Sansar, Virendra Awasthi, Vijay Yadav and Gaurav Mishra along with other members took part in the procession. The VHP leaders also distributed sweets to mark the occasion. Display of firecrackers marked the end of the function.
VHP leaders also took out another procession from Double Puliya, Vijay Nagar, to mark the occasion. The procession started from Hanuman temple at Vijay Nagar and ended at Hanuman temple, Kakadeo.
Activists of Shiv Sena performed special prayers at Ananddeshwar Temple at Parmat. District president of the party Manoj Gupta accused the BJP of deceiving members of the Hindu community on the Ayodhya issue.
“BJP raises the temple issue only to stir sentiments of Hindu community as the elections are round the corner,” stated Gupta.
In another function activists of Shiv Sena offered milk to the statue of Bharat Mata installed at Ghantaghar. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Suresh Singh alias Chotu, Preetam Singh, Sanjay Jaiswal and others.
On the other hand, members of the Muslim community also organised several meetings to register their protest against the demolition of Babri Masjid.
Prominent Muslim leaders of the city took part in a prayer ceremony at Dadamai crossing. Members of the Muslim League organised a dharna also at Dadamai to register their protest. Indian National League and Rashtrawadi Samaj Party criticised the proposed bullet proofing of the site where the statue of Ramlala was installed, by the State government.
